Stop looking back. There’s nothing there for you anymore. It starts as one step then turns into another then another. You keep your head up and you keep moving forward.
When you do this, you start to forget the good, the bad and the incredibly ugly you left behind in your last relationship. Because looking back at all of the times you had with your ex only makes it more difficult to move on.
Maybe you don’t want to hear this right now, but you will move on. You’ll meet someone new who makes your heart beat and the rest of the world melt into background noise. You’ll start to remember how it feels when you meet someone who makes your blood feel like crackling lights. It’s explosive in the best way.
But in order to get there with someone else, you need to tear that rearview mirror off of your car. You need to take all of the pictures down off of your shelf. Stop hanging on so tight to the past that was never the right path for you.
The day that you stop looking back, you’ll realize how the future looks so much better than the past.
I get that right now, the old songs you used to play for each other are still going to feel like your heart is trying to bust out of your chest and break in front of you. Songs stir up the emotions we don’t want to deal with and force back in time to when we’re tangled up and in love with someone who we thought was going to be around forever.
But that song will end. The nostalgia will fade. You’ll keep moving forward.
No one wants to belittle that huge, impactful relationship that ended but sometimes you need to acknowledge what it was for you and realize why it didn’t work out. They just weren’t your person and great news, your person is still out there. They’re waiting for you to stop looking back.
If your relationship just ended, focus on getting through the emotions that come along with that. Self-care till you can’t self-care anymore and then do it again. Take care of yourself.
But then, when the dust clears, move forward. Move on. Stop looking back and keep moving forward. You deserve to be happy.
